A Trojan Horse Is More Than Just A Statue

At some point during school you probably learned about Odysseus’s brilliant plan to sneak soldiers into his enemy’s city in the guise of a magnificent statue of a horse-the famous Trojan horse, to be exact. It’s a great story, and the plan was such a great tactical maneuver that, unfortunately, hackers have adapted it to suit their malicious attacks against your computer.

A Trojan horse, in the computer world, is a seemingly harmless program that delivers an unwanted, unsafe program that can have dire consequences. Unlike a computer virus, though, it relies on the user to complete some sort of action that triggers the program. So, like Odysseus’s Trojan horse being pulled inside the city walls, you have to open or install the item to release the harmful program, like Odysseus’s soldiers swarming out of the statue.

Biometric Passport - Twenty-first Century Passport Security

A biometric passport is a combination of a paper and electronic identity document that used to authenticate the citizenship of travelers. The biometric passport is valid for 5 years for first time applicants, compared to 10 years passports without biometric features. The biometric passport is planned to have digital imaging and fingerprint biometrics placed on the radio frequency identification chip. A biometric passport uses the most advanced technology to verify a person’s identity, looking the same as a regular passport, with the exception of the computer chip on the photo page.

The Popularity Of Podcasting

Feeding the need for audio and video content of all types, podcasting is an increasingly popular way for people on the go to get their music, news, talk show content and information. No longer do we have to listen to the same songs a dozen times on the train commute to work, there is a new world of content out there to compliment our habits. From professional and amatuer news shows to brand new bands showcasing their songs, there is a huge world of content. As of last year, the demand for video podcasting known as video blogging or vlogging was quickly growing. It reminds me of thousands of tiny radio and TV stations broadcasting on the Internet. Listen to your favorite shows, when and where you want. Podcasting can be thought of as a marriage between blogs and Mp3’s, but there is more to it.

Wireless Headsets

Wireless headsets should be among the Wonders of the World – technologically speaking. A headset gives one the ability to work hands-free at almost any task while talking on the phone, teleconferencing, and other tasks. It is a highly specialized piece of equipment that comes with many options designed to make telecommunications more convenient, clearer, and faster. Each manufacturer offers basically the same handset technology with different frequencies, options, and somewhat different devices. So many choices make it difficult to select the best one to meet your needs so try to keep the following basic features in mind when gathering information: the obvious and primary advantage to a headset is the ability it provides to talk or listen without the use of a handheld phone receiver or microphone and speakers.

Be Careful Out There - Wireless Internet Poses Huge Security Risks!

The convenience of logging on to the Internet in a coffee shop, in a car or at home in the back yard, along with more “hot spots” where wireless Internet is available has driven the popularity of wireless considerably in the last year. But few people realize the huge security risks with wireless access.

We lock our businesses and houses, keep our money in locked vaults at banks and so on, but we don’t lock our wireless access points on our PCs. Numerous studies of both business and residential wireless access points have shown that they are not locked down or are not locked correctly.

I have always loved to read.

As a young child I could often be found curled up in the corner reading Enid Blyton immersed in the mysteries of the Magic Faraway Tree, which always seemed more exciting than the tree house in our backyard. As I grew up I progressed through all the murder mysteries, Stephen King thrillers and of course some text books. And then, of course, there was university piles and piles of textbooks to absorb on topics like psychology, law and criminology and a few accounting books (but numbers, to me, don’t really count).

The Short And Amazing Past Of Programming

Given the impact of computer programming on our daily lives, it is easy to forget it is a relatively new development, particularly on a wide scale usage as we see today.

The story of computer programming might be traced back as far as 1206 when an Arab scholar and inventor named Al-Jazari made a humanoid robot that was operated by a series of cams and levers. The cams and levers could be “programmed” to produce various reactions and operations. This was the essence of programming. It is a method of giving instructions to a machine.
